Thoughts on the Non-Spending Month

September 2nd, 2011 | August:No-Spending Month | 0 Comments

This challenge was amazing, I learned a lot from it. I don’t spend too much money in crafts to be honest (don’t have it can’t spend it) but this year I couldn’t spending anything so I set this challenge to myself.

I learned a lot from it, not being able to spend anything I saw what I had, I felt I had more ideas because I knew I couldn’t go anywhere else for materials, everything was on my hand within my reach. I had lots of bursts of creativity, little lights in my head telling me: “you should do this”, “if you use this you can do something pretty”. It was really amazing. I did a lot of things this month…

…I sewed a lot (not only with my sewing machine but by hand too) Kai no Kuchi, Vestido Azul, Bedsheet Dress
…I decoupaged a wooden box
…I turned old things that didn’t have much use to me to something pretty like my Drawing Notebook and my Canvas Painting
…I tried new techniques like Tea Dyeing
…I had guest posters that made this month even greater with some ideas: Lavender Wand, Cheap Scrapbooking, Nature Art Journal

If you feel without any ideas I believe you should do this, being restricted by something made me much more creative and if you’re anything like me you cannot pass a challenge!

And don’t forget!

Bedsheet Dress

When I saw this tutorial I knew I had to make something like this. I love all the hippie look, the maxi dresses, the headband and this was the perfect opportunity to see how I looked in one. This is a bedsheet (I actually don’t know if it’s the right term for this, it’s like a huge cover for the main blanket) my parents used for years (I asked my mom and it was more than 10 years) until the fabric started to become really weak. For me it has the perfect pattern and color! Initially I started sewing this on my sewing machine but as I said here, my sewing machine has lots of problems so I hand sewed the long ends of the dress because I really wanted this dress! It took me two relaxing afternoons watching “The Event”.

Last night I was sick of seeing my almost finished dress lying around I grabbed my sewing machine and manage to not have problems with it (perhaps it was its on will) and finished my dress!

I like it very much, it’s definately not perfect but I don’t care. Hope you like it!

Two dresses in a week? Gotta love finishing projects :D

Hope this inspires you to create something!

Be True to Myself

I don’t know about you but I’ve some canvas that I make something with them and after a while I’m tired of them or the result didn’t turn out as I expected. So I cover them all again and start something new :) Like my summer goal display or this that I painted a while ago (but only Monday gave the final touches):

I love it! I completely forgot how painting like this was so relaxing. And I also love the quote, sometimes I forget this and I’m ashamed of who I am, but what’s the point of living a life without being yourself or following what everyone tells you to do? I don’t see the point. This is such a good reminder to never forget to stay true to myself.
